Government Accountability

CAC advocates to advance justice and pursue systemic reforms of government institutions.

Resources - Monitor. Assess. Advocate:

  • Identify and assess public policies and practices that deter or prevent meaningful civic engagement that may be rooted in local practices, ordinances, or state law
  • Develop and advocate for removal of barriers and advocate for best practices that elevate government standards and operations to the highest levels of government accountability, accessibility, and transparency
  • Mobilize community members to share first-hand experiences with policy makers and media regarding how various policies or practices deterred or prevented civic engagement
  • Build coalitions to strengthen the depth and breadth of voices addressing an issue
  • Engage the media to stimulate awareness of issues
  • When necessary, and as a last resort on select causes, litigate to enforce laws that ensure access to the democratic process or further define and inform the rights to the public and responsibilities government

Goal - Create Accountable Government:

  • Advance public policies from the local to state level that create transparent government
  • Increase government accessibility so the public has meaningful abilities to impact government decision-making
  • Advance justice to level the playing field in government decision-making

Impact - Responsive and Accountable Government that Increases Public Confidence in the Democratic Process:

When government adopts a culture that is accessible, accountable, and transparent the public has confidence in the democratic process and that government is functioning in a manner that serves the people's interest versus special interest.
